Get to know Josh

Involved in our schools

For the past ten years, Josh has volunteered extensively in our district: on the site council at Greendell; as webmaster and 4-year board member for the Nixon PTA in the roles of Fundraising lead and Treasurer; and this past year as Nixon PTA board representative for special education & inclusion and second grade room parent.

Involved in the community

Josh has served in the community as chair of the Emerging Technology Ad Hoc Committee in Los Altos Hills and has three times been appointed to educator search and interview committees at Beth Am.

Motivated, curious and innovative

Josh received a B.A. in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from Princeton and a Master's in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute in New York. In his professional work as a product strategy and design executive, startup founder and consultant specializing in product design, user experience design, product management and business strategy he has focused on education technology for K-12 and higher ed, corporate training, consumer goods, and surgical/medical devices.

Personally invested in Palo Alto Schools

Josh and his wife Jen, herself a graduate of Nixon and Gunn, have three children, one entering 10th grade at Gunn (via Fletcher and Nixon), one entering 8th grade at Synapse (via Nixon), and the youngest entering 3rd grade at Nixon. Jack, their 3rd grader, has autism and wears hearing aids and is nonetheless an enthusiastic student, thanks to incredible teachers and aides. Josh has been Jack's lead caregiver for the past 6 years and has gained profound perspective about both the challenges and opportunities associated with supporting every student.

WHY RUN?

1) Public schools matter. Therefore the school board matters.

2) Good board members are not guaranteed. Therefore capable people who care should serve if they can.

3) Josh has the skills, experience and temperament to be an excellent school board member. He believes in the value of stewardship and is ready to do the work to ensure every student in our district has the opportunity to thrive.

SHARING IS CARING
